Bad Taste in Boys (Kate Grable #1) by Carrie Harris

Kate Grable is the student trainer for her school football team and while the team sucks she is enjoying every minute of playing the doctor and staring at the team's quaterback, Aaron. But one day the team's coach decided that he needs to boost up the team by injecting them with steroids. Only the steroids are not working the way the should instead of making the palyers stronger and faster they are making them dead, or better yet undead. Now there are zombies walking the corridors of the school and Kate is the only one who can put all the pieces together and figure out the cure before someone she loves turns up undead too.

I really liked this book. From page 1 utnil the very end there is not a boring moment. Kate is a very smart heroine, ready to take action to proctect her friends and family. I really enjoyed being in her geeky head. All the other characters were very likeable, I especially liked her little brother, he is every thing I would expect a little brother to be.

This book is a fast, hilarious read. It lucks a little bit in the sence of something that speaks deep in your soul. There is no trying to figure out yourself or life or your place in life theme, which is usually the case with YA books. But it was very refreshing and I can't wait to get the one to spent more time with Kate and her gang.

  1. I had this on my blog last week along with a hilarious post from the author, Carrie Harris. This was a total light, slapstick read. I liked that it was mindless and fun.

  5. I love me a good zombie story and Bad Taste in Boys is a particularly fun tale of limb loss, undead cannibalism and really bad breath. Kate is the perfect heroine and much closer to real life than your standard fictional science geek. She may be socially awkward from time to time, but she's not a total outcast. She has friends and a relatively normal family and a combination of insecurities and strengths that you would expect to find in any normal high school girl. The secondary characters - Kate's friends, her brother, Aaron, the zombies - are also well drawn and even though we don't know their life stories, they're three dimensional individuals.
