Hex Hall (Hex Hall #1) by Rachel Hawkins

The blurb (from Goodreads):
Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.

By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire student on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.

As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.

My Thoughts:
Oh My God! Where do I begin with Hex Hall? The book was so amazing I had to force myself to stop reading it cause I had a life to live. I loved it!!!

The cover is so pretty I knew I had to buy it in hardback from the first time I saw it. Thank God I did!
Sophie is a smart, funny heroine, who I loved from the first page. Hex Hall is a place I'd kill to be really, just like Hogwarts. The story was amazing, I loved that there were so many things from the past that influence the story line.

I ordered the next one before I was finished but I still have to wait a week to get my hands on it. I want so bad to read it!

The Amulet: A Faedra Bennett Custodian Novel by Alison Pensy

After this book I realized I'm not a big fan of fairies. Don't get me wrong I adore the little, funky fairies, with great sense of humour and maybe too much confidence, but the full-sized ones...well not so much. I find them, kind of wrong. Don't know why...:P

Anyways, this book was about Faedra, a Custodian of a fae amulet. When she turns 18 her powers are turned on and all bad things start to happen. She is being chased by uglie Redcaps, her dog turns into a handsome fairy and the worlds vegetation strats getting destroyed.

She soon has to travel to the fae realm to find out what is causing the world's destruction and face the ones responsibles.

The book was, simply, boring until the time Faedra went to the fae realm, and that was half way through it. After that the story started to get better, but there were no major surprises and I could figure out some things that were left unsaid for the next book, which I will read in hopes of being like the second half of this one.

Oh.My.Gods by Tera Lynn Childs

A fun and fast read!

Phoebe's life is about to change dramatically, when her moms moves them to a tiny island in Greece to live with her new husband. What Phoebe doesn't know is that the island's only Academy is a super private school for Gods' descendents. She feels like an outcast, the only normal -nothos- kid in a school filled with semi-gods. But that doesn't stop her from pursuing her dream in running and making the school's team.

Soon enough she makes new friends, new enemies and a very cute and dangerous crush.

The story is short and fast-passed. We don't get to learn that much about the characters, so they are likable but I didn't really feel connected with ony of them. Phoebe is a cool heroine who likes to win and won't even go easy on her crush.

The book was supposed to be about the academy of semi-gods, but half way through it I forgot all about them and their powers, nothing paranormali was really happening. I was expecting more action besides the running parts. But there was no big evil to fight, no training to learn how to use your powers, no nothing.

I think the next book, Goddess Boot Camp, is going to be better...cause it's about Phoebe learning to use her new powers.

Crushed (The Witch-Game #1) by K.C. Blake

Kristen, Brittany and Cyndi are triplets and witches. Every year each of them picks a boy to crush with her colored dust. The boy is supposed to fall in love with them and do whatever his instructed to. But once Kristen crushes the schools bad boy, Zach, it seems that something has gone wrong. Little does she know that Zach is a warlock himself and he doesn't like beeing crushed, so he decides to have a little fun with the little witch while trying to make her uncrush him. But fate has something other in store for them. A new witch is in town and she obviously doen't like Kristen. The two of them will have to unite their powers to find out who she is and what she wants. And not every everyone will like the answers.

The first half of the book was a little bit slow. I would like Zach to play around with Kristen more before the two of them started to fall for each other. All the characters where memorable and the story was solid but I didn't feel that drown to it. The one thing I adores about this book is Zach, he was the perfect boyfriend material.

I'm very curious about the next book, cause in this one the ending was very final. I wonder if it's going to be about the same characters.

Texas Gothic by Rosemary Clement-Moore

Amy and Phin are spending their summer watching over their aunts farm, away from their family Goodnight magic. Or this is what they think. After a skeleton is found where a bridge is supposed to be build, the mystery of a town ghost is thrust upon them waiting to be solved. Amy, who has spend her whole life trying to balance her family world and the real one, will find herself in the middle of everything and will have to accept her onw magic if she wants to make it out alive.

The story is really nice. I loved the mystery and how it got resolved. Also I loved Phin, Amy's older sister, she is a mad scientist type that you have to adore. The romance element was settle and really nice at times.

The downside is that it was really slow at the first half of it. Only after the middle everything started to move faster and exciting things happened.

Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #1) by Maggie Stiefvater

The story of Sam and Grace is one of the most sweet love stories I've ever read.

Sam is a werewolf, a man who turns into a wolf when it's cold. Grace was once bitten by wolves but ever since Sam saved her that night, a bond has started to bloom. One day Sam is shot and he turns into a human at the back yard of Grace. She immediatle recognises him and they story begins to unfold. With the threat of the winter and a new wolf loose in town they have to be extra careful.

This book was full of emotion and made me cry a lot. I really enjoyed the double PoV writing style. I especially loved Sam's PoV cause it was easier to connect with him than Grace. I loved the ending and then took a look at the next book and I was like "Hell, why? How can they be so unlucky?". But I'll leave this one for winter, cause I really wanted to curl up with the book and a myg of hot cocoa but it's boiling here...:P

Oh, and one last thing: Child Protective Services should really pay a visit at Grace's house. Just a thought. ;)

Movie: Final Destination 5

★★★★☆

Just like all the movies before it Final Destination 5 is about a guy, who has a vision of an accident and tries to avoid it. This time is a bridge collapse, amazing in all its glory. Sam is the one who sees the accident, while he is in a bus going to a trip with his colleagues. He manages to cheat death and saves a few more with him.

But no one can cheat death, not for long that is.

After a few days, one by one the "Lucky 8", as the survivors are called, start to die. With the help of a mysterious coroner, Sam and his friends find out that death is still after them and won't stop unless he gets a live. Theirs or someone elses. Yes, this time you can kill someone and take their live span as your own. Love this new rule.

The movie was fast-passed, I didn't like some of the characters so I was glad to see them go... And the ending, oh, the ending. It was epic. There is NO way anyone could see that coming! I had goosebumps. I was like "I love the ending" hours after the movie!

So, if you are a fan of all the previous Final Destianations this is a must see, maybe the best of them all! Even if you're not this is a fast horror movie with an easy plot you'll love.

You can find more about the movie in imdb.

Fairy Bad Day by Amanda Ashby

Emma Jones is a 15 year old student of Burtonwood Academy, a training school for elemental creatures' slayers, and she is supposed to be a dragon-slayer, just like her mother. But at the day of the designation she is apointed to FAIRIES! She decides that in the six weeks until this is final she is going to change her Principal dicesion, but with only ine week left she has no idea what to do. And this is not her biggest problem, a giant, invisble fairy starts to hang around the school and she is the only one who can see it. With the help of the friends and her archenemy, she will try to stop it, on the way discovering a lot of secrets about her past.

This book is hilarious! Emma was a kick-butt heroine, headstrong, trying to have it her way. Very dragon slayer material!

The ones that I loved the most though where Trevor, Rupert and Gilbert the three tiny fairies at the mall. There were the most fun and annoying creatures in the whole world.

The story was fun and easy to read. The author gave a lot of hints as to what might happen and I figured it all, even guessed some parts and I was right, but it didn't matter. It was awesome no matter what. Exactly what I needed, a lot of fun and not so much drama.

Perfect!

First Frost (Mythos Academy Prequel) by Jennifer Estep

Another amazing prequel. I can't wait to start reading Touch of Frost.

Ok, this is the story of Gwen before she enrolled in Mythos Academy. Gwen is a gypsy, though she doesn't know why, which is kind of weird but anyways...she is a gypsy with a gift to see memories and feelings that are attached to an object or even a person. One day she finds out a terrible secret by touching the hairbrush of another girl and her story begins. After a few weeks she is told that, by fall she will have to leave her old school back and go to Mythos Academy, a place for people like her.

The story is really nice and it gets you wanna read more. I love Gwen and the way she is so curious about everything.

I also have to say that Spartans are not mythological creatures (gypsies either). They are just people who where born in Sparta. Humans. It's the way they were raise that made them of the most incredible fighters of Greece. Just a note. But I'm going to look pass that cause I think the book is really awesome.

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) by Cassadra Clare

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . .

Pros:I liked the fact that Jace and Clary's relationship grew over time and they weren't drawn to each other from the beginning. I loved the character of Isabelle! She's awesome and kind of reminds me of myself. Loved the scenes in New York, the places, everything about it. Loved the chapter with the Uprising story.

Cons:The world that Cassandra Clare created seemed like it had no rules. At all. I mean, everything happened to be so conviniently doable. There's always something that the characters can do and we have no idea about it. There are no limits to anyones possible powers. The begining of the book reminds me of some anime shows, where at the first episode you learn so many new names, terms, things about the new world that you don't really understand any of it. But it got smoother later on.

I was expecting to read an amazing book, from everything that I heard, but unfortunately I didn't. I was somewhat dissapointed, but it was I great read and I will read the next ones.

Daimon by Jennifer L. Armentrout

An awesome prequel to Half-Blood.

Alex is a half-blood, half mortal and half pure-blood. Pure-bloods are the children of gods and mortals with powers over the elements. Alex leaves with her mother in Miami after leaving the Convenant, a place to train half-bloods, three years ago. Her mision used to be killing Daimons, turned evil pure-bloods who drink the live force of everyone else, now her mision is to lay low and be normal. But after a surprise attack by two Daimons her whole world is turned upside down and she has to run away, to the only place where she belongs. Back to the Convenant.

Alex is a butt-kicking heroine, I loved her from the very first page. The book was sort but right to the point. It made me to desperately want to read Half-Blood. Luckyly, there was a small preview of Half-Blood!

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

When Thomas wakes up inside an elevator, the only thing he can remeber is his name. Every other memory is deleted.

But he is not the only one. When the doors of the elevater open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by other boys who welcome him to the Glade. The Glade is an enclosed structure with a jail, a graveyard, a slaughterhouse, living quarters, and gardens. And no way out. Just like Thomas, no one knows how they ended up there or why. The only thing they know is that every morning the walls around the Glade open and kids -Runners- try to find the way out of the Maze. Every night the walls close again. Every 30 days a new boy is send to them.

The arrival of Thomas was expected, but the next day another kid arrives and this one is a girl. Even a bigger surprise is the message she has to deliver.

Maybe Thomas is more important than he could imagine. If only he could unlock the secrets burried in his head and solve the mystery of the Maze.

The story never gets boring, there is always something going on, yet it's not tiring. And at the end of the book a big surprise is waiting the readers that is driving them to get the next one of the series.

City Of Secrets (Stravaganza #4) by Mary Hoffman

First I have to say that I love Italy, so when I first got my hands on the first Stravaganza book I was really excited and it was great.
This one is the 4th one of the series and it travels us to a 16th century Padua of another world.

Matt is sad in his 21st century London life, with dyslexia and self-confidence problems, when he finds a book that travels him to Padova in Talia. There he meets a professor in a uni that tells him he is a Stravagante and he can travel with his talisman between the two worlds.

He also meets another stravagante Luciano, who is actually a dead boy from his school and lives his life in Talia. In his world he comes across all the Stravaganti from all the previous books and together they help him adjust in his new life.

Everything seems great, a new life in a world where Matt can read, new friends and a new city, until the di Chimici decide to trace Luciano and make him pay for killing a member of their family. All magic becomes forbidden in Padua and the adventure begins!

The book is simple writen, enjoyble and full of magic scenes. I loved it! And I can't wait to get my hands on the next
one!

Dark Visions by L.J.Smith

I think I have to review each book separately...

The Strange Power: Introduces us to all the main characters and the Institution where, Kaitlyn and every other psychic is going to spend the next year. After a few days the discover that not everything is what it seems. The book is really nice, I loved all the characters and the whole Institute life.

The Possessed: This is the second book and my least favourite. The characters are always on the run, but nothing really seems to happen. They are moving forward, but the story doesn't.

The Passion: Thankfully the last part was awesome! The Institute is BACK! New amazing characters mix with the old ones to lead us to an extraordinary ending. Loved it! And it made up for the boredome the second book put me through.

The Secret Circle by L. J. Smith

Cassie descovers she is a witch when she moves in with her grandmother. It seems like her new school's elite are all witches too and she struggles to fit in with them. The first book is about her finding out about her past and the secrets of her new town. Trying to do the right thing and eanding up captive from another member of her coven.

When the first book left me wanting more I was glad to see that the second  one was as fastpassed and interesting. The story is beautiful and with a lot of action. I would like a little bit more witch fights, calling on the elements and stuff, a little bit more active magic and not so much of herbs and crystals. The ending was good but not so much fulfilling, it didn't left me wanting more or being extremely full, it just left me...

A good read for anyone, and I can't wait for the tv series this fall!

A Kingdom Besieged (Chaoswar Saga #1) by Raymond E. Feist

The darkness is coming…

If you are a fan of epic fantasy novels, knights, battles, kings, queens, magicians, elves and everything related to them this is a fantasy world you’ll love.

The story of Midkemia started 26 books ago and still worth waiting every single book. In this 27th book the Kingdom is threatened by the empire of Great Kesh.  Spies from both the Kingdom and Roldem are disappearing or turned to the enemy side.  And when Jim Dasher, an agent from both the Conclave of Shadows and the Kingdom tries to find out what is going on he discovers an old enemy is still alive. The Pantathians, yet again, are playing a mysterious role in the new war that is threatening the Kingdom.

While we learn about the Keshians moving against the Kingdom we meet new members of the con Doin family. Martin is the middle son of the duke of Crydee and as the men of the west answer the King’s call to muster, he is left to guard Crydee Keep . Everything seems quiet until an invading army shows up at their doorstep and all hell breaks loose.

Another brilliant thing about this book is that for the first time we get to see the demon realm. We realize that demons are not as different from humans as we originally thought and we follow a pack of them who is trying to escape the Void that is starting to cover the realm destroying everything that it touches.

Filled with heroic battles, magical sceneries, romance and chivalry, this book is the first one from the Chaoswar Saga, the last known trilogy of Midkemia, but I wouldn’t recommend it  to anyone that hadn’t read the previous books.

Feist is, without a doubt, a master of his kind and can keep even the most demanding readers hooked on every book.

The Riftwar Saga by Raymond E. Feist

Magician(Apprentice & Master)
Our story begins at Crydee, a peaceful frontier of the Kingdom of the Isles. There two friends, Pug and Tomas start their apprenticing when they turn 13. An invading army from another world threatens the Kingdom and Pug and Tomas find themselves in the middle of the conflict, while they both discover that they are destined for greatness.

Silverthorn
This is the sequel to magician, after the 12-year riftwar is over. Now, a new evil that raises the dead and makes corpses do battle with the living threatens the new king of Midkemia. And a new quest for the antidote to a poison has to be made in order to save the life princess Anita. With Prince Arutha on the lead a new adventure is unfolding and new characters are intoduced. Silverthorn is a stirring tale of magic, chivalry and romance.

A Darkness At Sethanon
A new enemy is threatening Midkemia. The dark elves are on the move with their new leader, the legendary Murmandamus. Prince Arutha, with his young squires Locky and Jimmy are set on a journey to stop Murmadamus, while Pug and Tomas start a search forMacros the Black to save their world. A Darkness at Sethanon introduces us to new faces, so many more battles and excitements, while letting us know a little bit more about the history of Midkemia and the whole Universe.

Raymond E. Feist is the most brilliant epic fantasy writer and The Riftwar Saga is only the beginning to a long journey of 28 books and counting! If you want to learn more about the world of Midkemia and Feist please visit crydee.com/
