Tell Me Something Tuesday #3

This is a weekly meme hosted by Cambria @ CambriaHebert.com. Each week there is a different question to be answered.

This week's tell me something:

Have you ever participated in a Book club, buddy read or Read along?

My answer:

I have never participated in a Book club in real life, but whenever my best friend reads a book she has to talk about every detail of it, I feel like I've read her books too. Thank goodness she doesn't read that much and whenever she asks me for a book I make sure to read it first.

I have only participated in some buddy reads on Goodreads groups, they were really fun. It's really nice to hear all the different opinions while you are reading a book. There were some times that I wished someone was reading a book at the same time with just so I could discuss all my theories and whatever comes to mind, and trust me there's a lot.

Now about Read alongs...well, I've never been a part of one but I am about too! I will announce today a Read Along of which I would actually be one of the four hosts, so I guess yet again, I am not really participating in one... Oh what the heck...Maybe I will in the future.

Stained (Zombie I Am) by Mike Mauthor

I stopped reading this one in the middle. Didn't really see a reason to continue. I was expecting this to be good and different, but I was very dissapointed.

This story is about Lin, a boy who gets bitten by a zombie, and a year after that he has to go back to his normal life carrying the virus and taking medication. So we follow him through everything, his school come-back, making new friends and getting back into everything school life is about.

In my opinion, this book needs some serious editing. If I -being a greek and all- can spot so many mistakes just by reading this, guess how many an editor will. There were a lot of mistakes and that made the book tiring. Also I wasn't really into the whole story that much, I don't really know what I expected but it wasn't that.

Not a book for me.

Cover Reveal: My Super Sweet 16th Century

Today I am very excited to reveal the cover of a book I can't wait to read.

On the precipice of her sixteenth birthday, the last thing lone wolf Cat Crawford wants is an extravagant gala thrown by her bubbly stepmother and well-meaning father. So even though Cat knows the family’s trip to Florence, Italy, is a peace offering, she embraces the magical city and all it offers. But when her curiosity leads her to an unusual gypsy tent, she exits . . . right into Renaissance Firenze.

Thrust into the sixteenth century armed with only a backpack full of contraband future items, Cat joins up with her ancestors, the sweet Alessandra and protective Cipriano, and soon falls for the gorgeous aspiring artist Lorenzo. But when the much-older Niccolo starts sniffing around, Cat realizes that an unwanted birthday party is nothing compared to an unwanted suitor full of creeptastic amore.

Can she find her way back to modern times before her Italian adventure turns into an Italian forever?

I also have an expert from the book I think you guys would enjoy.

My Super Sweet 16th Century, by Rachel Harris is available for pre-order on: Amazon | Barnes & Noble Be sure to add it to your TBR pile on Goodreads! It coming out in September 11, 2012.

IMM [Mar.5 - Mar.11]

IMM is a weekly blog meme hosted by The Story Siren, where you post all the books you received this week.

So here is what I got.

From NetGalley:
The Girl in the Clockwork Collar is the second book in the Steampunk Chronicles. I've only read the prequel of the series and I am currently waiting for the first book from the Book Depository.

The Shapesifter's Secret was the second book I got from NetGalley. I love the cover and the blurb, also the pub date is June 12th so I have time to read it.

Free from Smashwords:
I've heard some great things about Beautiful Demons and since it was free I thought I should give it a try. If you want to check it out too here's the Smashwords link.

Due to the Read an e-book week from smashwords there were a lot of free ebooks, and I managed to find some I had my eye on for a while.
I've only read Crushed by K.C. Blake and it was really good so now I think it's time for me to read her other series. Vampires Rule is the first book of the Rule Series.

Golden Blood had me sold from the minute I saw the cover. It's so pretty. And the book is about time traveling which I adore. I heard so many great things by one specific blogger, Juhina @ Maji Bookself and hopefully I'll like it as much as she does.

From the author:

I love the blurb of Darkhouse. I find ghost hunters books to be very entertaining. So when Karina Halle contacted me I was more than glad to get this book for review. BTW I love the new cover, all these colors are magical.

Bought:

I got the Hardcover version of Cross my Heart and Hope to Spy. The book is adorable. Now I want them all in hardback!

Won:

I won Shadows from the Jennifer L. Armetrout Lovers group in Goodreads, go join if you are a fan too.

I didn't exactly win Obsidian, but I won a $10 GC from amazon and I bought the Kindle version of it. Everyone seems to love these books so I will be reading them soon.

This is it for me.
What was in your MailBox this week?

Waiting on Wednesday #3

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking The Spine where you can spotlight an upcoming release that you're eagerly anticipating.

Here's what I'm waiting...

Croak by Gina Damico
Pub Date: March 20th 2012

Sixteen-year-old Lex Bartleby has sucker-punched her last classmate. Fed up with her punkish, wild behavior, her parents ship her off to upstate New York to live with her Uncle Mort for the summer, hoping that a few months of dirty farm work will whip her back into shape. But Uncle Mort’s true occupation is much dirtier than that of shoveling manure.

He’s a Grim Reaper. And he’s going to teach her the family business.

Lex quickly assimilates into the peculiar world of Croak, a town populated entirely by reapers who deliver souls from this life to the next. Along with her infuriating yet intriguing partner Driggs and a rockstar crew of fellow Grim apprentices, Lex is soon zapping her Targets like a natural born Killer.

Yet her innate ability morphs into an unchecked desire for justice—or is it vengeance?—whenever she’s forced to Kill a murder victim, craving to stop the attackers before they can strike again. So when people start to die—that is, people who aren’t supposed to be dying, people who have committed grievous crimes against the innocent—Lex’s curiosity is piqued. Her obsession grows as the bodies pile up, and a troubling question begins to swirl through her mind: if she succeeds in tracking down the murderer, will she stop the carnage—or will she ditch Croak and join in?

***

A reaper in training? When I first read the blurb of this one I knew I had to get it. I seems like something that would have both mystery and fun momments, both of which I adore.

So what are you waiting this Wednesday?

Tell Me Something Tuesday #2

This is a weekly meme hosted by Cambria @ CambriaHebert.com. Each week there is a different question to be answered.

This week's tell me something:

Do you usually like the book better than the movie or the movie better than the book? What is your favorite book to movie adaptation you have ever seen?

My answer:

Ok, this is a hard one for me cause I haven't read so many books that turned into a movie and if I watch a movie I probably won't read the book later. It sucks knowing what's going to happen in a book. But from the few examples I have, I am a firm believer that books are better than movies.

Take for example Harry Potter.
All the Potter books were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy better than the movies. Although I did love the choice of characters and Hogwarts the story missed a lot of things that the book had.

The only movie that I actually thought was better than the books was Eragon.

But I don't really like the book, so it was only normal that the movie would be better. Having Garrett Hedlund playing Murtagh helped a lot too, since I adore him.
So, I don't really have a fav book to movie adaption but I am all for books being better than their movies.
