Book Review: Party Games by R.L. Stine

Party Games
by R.L. Stine

I was really excited to read this book. It's R.L. Stine, who I usually love. It's about a bunch of kids that go to a secluded island to celebrate one of their friends' brithday and then things go wrong. People start dying as the party games turn deadly and they are trapped in the island with no way out.

This book had a great premise and even though the beginning was a huge introduction a big cast of characters that I never really managed to remember completely, once the party started things were looking up. People started dropping dead and I was starting to get excited (That sounds kind of sick, but this is what you expect from R.L. Stine books). Anyways, the party game wasn't what I (or any of the characters) thought. It turned out to be a complete let down, which would have been a great twist if something remotely interesting happened after it but things just got a bit boring for me.

Since this is an R.L. Stine book, there is no great character development and that wouldn't have bothered me if the story was good, but it wasn't. So, this was kind of a disappointment for me. People were doing things that made no sense, the story turned from a deadly mystery to a boring (view spoiler) case.

A final note on the audiobook: I really enjoyed the narrator. She did a pretty good job and I would love to listen to more books by her.

  1. Well, I have been hearing a lot about the author
I LOVE horror books, so I am pretty sure I will enjoy this once despite all the characters (cuz i really can't track too many characters)
    GREAT review though
